Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro has really been the smartphone in the mid-range category to substitute the iPhone X for those of us who are in love with notch display. My last post was on Honor 10 Lite which is the selfie master in the mid-range category which I doubt the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro can surpass but this article is not based on comparing both devices but the Honor 10 Lite will be mentioned below for some purpose.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro DESIGN
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro features a simple design metric, with a metal back cover which has an arc design and rounded corners which looks not very attractive as the Honor 10 Lite or Nokia 6.1+ but it fine. The device is also designed to be water resistant (P2i coating) making it a plus as a mid-range device. We have a dual rear camera on both the front and back of the device making the Note 6 Pro the first smartphone by Xiaomi to feature four AI-oriented cameras.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro DISPLAY
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro has a much larger screen and higher display quality than its predecessor, Note 5 Pro. Spotting a 6.26″ inch FHD+ display which is practically achieved with the large top-notch which doesn’t at the long run offer much benefit than the display increment but I guess the designers had to keep up with the trends. The display is quite nice with a resolution of 2280 x 1080p resulting in up to 403PPI (Pixel density) which makes the color appear more vibrant, while images and text appear the more vivid with a high viewing angle.
The display further features a 19:9 aspect ratio with a screen to body ratio of 85%, 500nits brightness, 1500:1 contrast ratio, NTSC:84%, a corning 2.5D Gorilla Glass and a full-screen gesture mode like what we have on the Huawei Y9 2019.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro CAMERA
With the predecessor offering one of the best cameras at its time, then the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro shouldn’t be offering less. We have the usual dual camera at the back (12MP + 5MP) but this time with a larger f/1.9 aperture that helps bring more light into the image sensor to deliver more quality shots compared to f/2.2 aperture, the primary sensor has 1.4-micron pixel size and dual-pixel autofocus. The 5MP rear secondary camera helps with the bokeh effect and portraits shots.
The device does better in good light environments with an auto HDR, nice vibrant colors with the right light exposure, and in low light, it does quite well but not as perfect as what we have the Samsung Galaxy S8, with the shutter speed of the Note 6 Pro adding a blur effect when an object is captured on motion. There might be some little noise and lack of detailed sharpness but for this type of device, the camera is pretty impressive in both high and low light area.
Portrait mode has become a very important mode in camera on smartphones. Redmi Note 6 Pro is equipped with AI portrait mode 2.0 which comes with 6 new bokeh effects and the edge detection is quite near to being perfect, and the level of blurriness can be adjusted after the shots have been taken and users can further add other effects such as light trails.
Finally on the rear camera, because it is AI oriented, it can recognize up to 27 types of scenes, plus it also adds 6 different kinds of lens flare to give superb image quality.
To the front is also a dual AI enabled camera: 20MP + 2MP, where 20MP is the main selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture, plus it uses a 4-in-1 super pixel to make an effective pixel size of 1.8 microns. The secondary front-facing camera is primarily designed to handle the depth-of-field with f/2.2 aperture.
The front camera further supports AI portraits and it is equipped with a beauty mode v4.0, a selfie timer, a face recognition technology for face unlock and it can also recognize up to 12 scenes using AI.
NB: This device is typically a camera device.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro PERFORMANCE
Since the device belongs to the mid-range category as the Redmi Note 5 Pro, it is still packed with mid-range Qualcomm chipset, Snapdragon 636 Octa-core processor which is clocked at the speed of 1.8GHz but it could have been better if it is powered by the latest Snapdragon 660 used by mid-range devices because the predecessor also packs the same processor which was released in 2018 and this device is made for 2019.
The processor is coupled alongside a 4GB/6GB to further speed up operations like launching large apps, playing heavy games, multi-tasking and many other daily activities you can think of.
The device also packs 64GB in-built memory space which can be further expanded using a microSD card up to 256GB and considering that the device is a cheap phone in 2019, and it might not be the most powerful budget device but it a solid one. The device has an in-built 4,000mAh battery capacity which can take users up to a day on a normal usage like listening to songs, watching a movie, chatting and e.t.c plus it features a fast charge technology.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro HARDWARE
This Xiaomi device is a Pro and I guess we should be expecting a very exciting thing like the USB Type-C but unfortunately, Redmi lovers are given the normal USB but users get to enjoy the memory expansion though, which can be inserted in a SIM try with users determining if to use just two SIM or a single SIM and memory card.
There is a single speaker at the bottom with a mic, a fingerprint sensor at the rear side and finally an audio headphone jack at the top.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro SOFTWARE
We might be familiar with the user interface on Xiaomi smartphones, the MIUI, but Redmi Note 6 Pro runs on MIUI 10 which is typically based on Android v8.1.0 Oreo which is not quite good for a device made against 2019, but it will get the Android 9 Pie updates.
The software works alongside the hardware to give superb user experience plus it comes with lots of features and Xiaomi still boast of being one of the best when it comes to Android customization.
The device is sold for 70,000 naira for the 4GB RAM version and higher for the 6GB version.
