Realme 5 series first impression

Realme 5 series has been released into the Indian market and of course, we have a global version of the devices. The devices are kicking off at a price of $140 for the smallest out the series.

Realme is really trying to overtake mobile brands like VIVO, XIAOMI and other brands that make budget and midrange devices.

We have the Realme 3 and should in case you are wondering, there is no room for Realme 4. Three major smartphones were announced but o this article, it just the Realme 5 and 5 Pro with Quad camera setups but different lens configuration.

The Realme 5 Pro is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 chipset which is an upgrade of the Snapdragon 710 found on devices like the Realme X, vivo S1, and Redmi Note 7 Pro, and it is coupled with a 4GB/8GB with 64GB/128GB internal storage variant which can be happily expanded using a memory card, while the Realme 5 is equipped with Snapdragon 665 chipset with 3GB/4GB and 32GB/128GB of internal storage which is also expandable.

And about power, we know Realme always has it.  We have a 4,035mAh battery capacity with 20-watt (VOOC) fast charging technology on the Realme 5 Pro, while we have 5,000mAh battery capacity.

The reason for a bigger battery on the smaller version makes me think about Samsung Note 10 series.

The display of both devices is great with IPS LCD screen technology, it offers rich colors. We have a 6.3-inch FHD+ display with a waterdrop notch which is said to be somehow smaller than others on the Realme 5 Pro.

We have a bigger screen on the Realme 5 itself, but the resolution is on the side of the 5 Pro, so, therefore, it is sharper than the 5. Realme 5 features a 6.5-inch Full HD+ LCD waterdrop display

What do we have on Realme 5 series cameras?

Now, this is the first device b Realme to feature up to four cameras and it is also the first quad-camera smartphone to be launched in India. If you could remember, I said these two phones have different camera configurations.

On the Realme 5, we have a quad camera design with 12MP primary lens with f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide camera that is up to 119-degree, a macro lens camera for taking close shots and finally a 2MP depth-sensing camera.

While we have a 48MP primary lens on the Realme 5 Pro with f/1.7 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide camera of the same degree with the Realme 5, 2MP macro lens and 2MP depth sensor.

The macro camera has the ability to focus on objects at a close range of four centimeters and the depth sensor is what we have known them for, blurry background.

How is Realme 5 series design and OS?

Oh yea, the design, well it elegant and would rate it 7/10, though it made with plastic and the sides too are made of plastic so when it falls more often, it very prone to damage just like other plastic design-oriented budget devices.

But if what you meant to ask is if it pleases the eyes, well it sure does pleases the eyes and palm. Realme is always trying to make its own budget and mid-range devices look more spectacular like what we have on Realme 3 and 3i that launched a couple of months ago and it has been the best design out of all budget devices made so far in 2019.

On the Realme 5 and 5 Pro is a diamond cutting design on the back that often reflects with light and shows quite some rainbow colors and the design is described as being “HOLOGRAPHIC”.

There is 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth v5 and users can record video at 4K/30fps and USB Type-C is a plus for the Realme 5 Pro while the Realme is equipped with micro-USB.

The ColorOS 6 based on Android 9 is what is expected and it looks it has some similarities in UI with apples IOS.

To get the Realme 5 Pro, approximately 70,000 Naira is needed for the 4GB/64GB model, approx. 74,000 Naira is needed to get 6GB/64GB model, and 84,000 Naira for the 8GB/128GB version.

For the Realme 5, it will cost 49,000 Naira to get the 3GB/32GB version, 52,500 Naira to get the 4GB/64GB model and approx. 60,000 Naira for the 4GB/128GB model.
