Bottom Line

Realme 3i specifications and features are similar to the likes of Tecno camon 11, Huawei Y7 Prime, Infinix smart 4 and other devices in its price range. The device is made to please the eyes primarily, and to give users a long runtime and not made for photography lovers.

Realme is a new mobile company under BBK Electronics which is also the parent company of mobile brands like VIVO, OPPO, and ONEPLUS which are china made. The Realme is designed to serve higher in the Indian market, thus, it was launched recently and is just a little older than a year.

Realme products are budget-oriented, so it comes cheap always with nice specs to top it and they have so far released up to nine smartphones and now we have another cheap Realme smartphone joining the league, “Realme 3i”.

Realme 3i review in Nigeria

Realme 3 was originally launched back in March and was of two types; the global version which is the Realme 3i and the Indian version which is the Realme 3, like I said, it meant to serve Indians the most.

Since Realme is designed to serve mid-range users and those that don’t like to spend much on smartphones but want at least something good, the market will be tightened again with Realme 3i taking on mobile brands like Samsung, Tecno, Xiaomi, Gionee, iTel, Leagoo and other mobile brands that have launched budget devices of same price range.

Let's take a look at what's in the box

  • Realme 3i
  • Charger (10W)
  • MicroUSB cable
  • TPU case
  • SIM ejector tool
  • Manuals

Realme 3i Design

The device is designed using a polycarbonate material for the body and a very attractive back cover with a shape connecting pattern, a dual rear camera at the left uppermost part with a vertical design layout, fingerprint sensor which works well but the face unlock is pretty faster and there goes the brand name at the bottom.

The device back cover is designed using the Diamond Blue, Diamond Black, and Diamond Red color colorway. The red fades into blue with shades of pink and purple from top to bottom which I prefer to Tecno Phantom 9 aurora back cover design.

Realme 3i features a curve and rounded back cover to make it look prettier on the palm. It weighs 175g with 156.1 x 75.6 x 8.3mm in dimension.

To the front is a waterdrop display with thin sides and a thick one to the bottom which in overall is nothing close to bad, it more like every other budget devices out there except Huawei Y9 and Huawei Y9 Prime with a thin chin.

We have the volume rocker are on the left side, while the power button is located on the right. The button does not in any way feels cheap or give the impression of developing faults over a period of time. The speaker is a single one and is located at the bottom, along with the headphone jack, and the MicroUSB port.

Realme 3i Display

Realme 3i features a 6.2 inches HD+ LCD display with 1520 x 720p which results in 271ppi (pixel density). The display resolution is quite a turn-off but it good just like what we have on several Samsung low-end devices and Tecno camon 11 and 11 pro. The color accuracy can be described as fair in one-word but it does get bright which gives users quite a comfy view in daylight with lots of light.

Another turn-off is the inability of streaming HD videos on Netflix which might be sad for some people but gaming and watching downloaded movies is nice.

Realme 3i Performance

Realme 3i is powered by MediaTek Helio P60 Octa-core processor clocked at the speed of 2.0GHz, while the Indian version features the Helio P70 which is an upgraded version of the P60. It is supported with a 3GB/4GB RAM with 32GB/64GB internal memory which is expandable up to 256GB using a memory card.

Realme actually did quite well in the performance section for its price. Gaming on the device runs smoothly along with other social apps but the user might experience a bit of a slow down when launching heavy apps but after some few seconds, it picks up like it was fed with nitro.

Heavy games like Asphalt 9, PES 2019 PRO, PUGB, and other high-end games might give stuttering (slow down and pick up) experience when playing them but not to worry, it doesn’t happen at all times.

Below is a screenshot of the benchmarks test scores

Realme 3i Battery

The device is powered by 4,230mAh battery capacity with 10W fast charging technology to juice up the Realme 3i in no time which is a plus. The battery performance is great just like the Huawei Y9, and with heavy usage, users will still get a very good result at the end of the day, at least we can’t be operating our phones for 24hrs non-stop.

Playing games, receiving calls, making calls, using a camera, and surfing the web at regular interval can get you through a full day.

Realme 3i software

The device is running on the latest version of Google OS, Android 9 Pie with a customized UI (ColorOS 6). The ColorOS 6 is a great OS used on OPPO devices. More on colorOS 6.

The IOS comes with some pre-installed apps that users might find less useful and the bad side is, not all of them can be deleted/uninstalled.

Just like on other OPPO devices with ColorOS 6, we have the Game space software on the Realme 3i. If this is your first time seeing this, well, the Game space enhances game performance and it also has other features like notification management and call blocking while playing a game which is cool.

Another cool feature is the ability to have two facebooks and WhatsApp accounts using a different SIM card for signing up, call recording feature which is on by default and there is a feature which let users boost their internet speed.

Realme 3i Camera

We have a dual rear camera of 13MP with f/1.7 aperture + 2MP depth-sensing camera. Rating the camera quality, it is not below average. The camera is not bad and some shots come out looking really much better but users might experience lack of detail and inadequate exposure sometimes on shots and this is expected for a device at its price range and moreover, it is an entry-level mobile phone but Xiaomi is trying to change that with Xiaomi Redmi 7.

The device also features some interesting camera features to help support the lens like the pro mode, time-lapse, slow motion which I wished Y9 had, nightscape mode, HDR, portrait mode, and beauty features for a selfie shot.

Like I said earlier, Realme 3i lens is not that bad, the nightscape features help take great shots at a low light environment.

Realme 3i front camera

To the front is a 13MP camera lens which is not the best amidst budget devices but it is better. There is no difference between the quality of the rear camera to the front which makes it better because I expected more from the back camera.

The front lens beauty feature doesn’t over saturate the shots nor make it look too over beautified and another great thing is that it can be increased and decreased and the portrait works just as expected from a budget device.

Another feature is the face editing feature which allows the face to be thinner, increase eyes size, nose and more.
